all of my family gathered at the parents. :)

Family, Food, Presents,

We left really early (5ish) to go my grandmother's house for Christmas morning.

Gathering for breakfast -
missing someone, forever in our hearts.

Another tradition - watching my Granny open her presents.

While presents are nice, and the food is fabulous -
the sweetest part about Christmas (after celebrating Jesus!) is the time spent together.
I cherish those moments!

To end the year - I found a computer armoire to add to my Christmas gifts.

Craigslist, surprise from work, answered prayer.
My mama made a comment about receiving the desires of your heart.
Please Jesus - I need a few more miracles! :)
And then 2011 ended while I gave thanks for all my many blessings -
giving honor to the great I AM, may I never forget His works!

More December/Christmas scenes...

The small touches of Christmas decor!

Some of the days in December -
I'll describe them as the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory!
Missed the YFC Christmas event.

I did make it the next night to see Ross & Daniel skydive.
Miss Chloe looked cute in the green and pink.

Daniel and Ross had fun!

The Christmas program -
the children are always a highlight of the morning.

I posted a group photo earlier of the kiddos -
the girls/boys all were matching.

The grown-ups were matching too.
It is hard to have a full family photo right now, so it was just us girls with the parents.

Chloe's first Christmas!

Bible Study came to my house -
I took a few photos of the inside decorations.

We made Christmas goodies at my house this year.

I finished photo editing from a family session in one night 12/23.

My Christmas corner - cards and presents.
I didn't put up a tree this year.

I had fun wrapping presents! :)
It turned into a crafty-kind of project.

My favorite decorations -
the real reason for Christmas is all about Jesus!

On Christmas Eve, I cleaned up at my house, packed my car, and headed to help Mama.

I loved the feeling of packing up from my house to go "home" for Christmas. :)

Back to December to recap for my journal -

I had a very full schedule between

photos, work, church, the Christmas season, the everyday activities,
along with lots of sick days.

December began with a trip to VA.
Then a weekend full of to-dos.

The first Wednesday, we celebrated with Emma for #6!

Earlier that evening I ran over "another" tree - caused a flat tire.
So thankful to have people to help out. :)

The second Friday night - we had our adult Sunday School dinner at church.

I stayed to eat then left my camera so someone could capture the games/gifts.

Marking items off of my list that night as I finished wedding edits.

The second Saturday we celebrated with my dad's family.

The kiddos!

After the children opened their gifts, the adults played "Chinese Christmas?"
This green box drew lots of attention and conversation.

Behind the lens for a change.

Shopping in Florence with Mama that evening -
finishing most of the store shopping.
On-line shopping took care of most of my list this year.

The next week - another round trip in a evening ended with another tire mishap.
(not my fault that time - but I ended up having to drive with a spare for DAYS. so not fun!)

The P kiddos were at our house on the 15th -
they like to take photos.
One of them captured the gifts, Hunter used my cell to capture Brooke on the attic steps,
and I deleted quite a few.

This Pinterest photo inspired my gift wrapping this year.

A simple wreath for Christmas.

I have this overwhelming life to try sort out, focusing on "intentional."

After January 31, I am no longer ordering photos myself.

Do you look "across the fence" and wish for something else?

I read this post from (in)courage recently titled "Looking Over Fences..."

and it really made me think.

It is easy to look at other people -

their lives -

(work, family, house, job, etc, etc)
and try to measure up or either see yourself as a failure.

Honestly....I am guilty of both at times.

Comparing and seeing better or worse is "no good."

Comparison is an easy way to create misery.

It is hard not to -

sometimes other people seem to have it all.

I am still learning and it will probably take a lifetime...

but I want to get it right.

I know without a doubt that I have a blessed life.

But deep down I have struggles that I keep to myself,

doubts and fears that I battle.

I don't want anyone to look at me and wish for my life -

you wouldn't want it - trust me.

God is writing my story, weaving the tapestry of my life.

I do not know who this quote belongs to,
but it has remained in my thoughts for a long time...

This writer (Gregory TeSelle) pointed out this scripture:

John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants;

but I have called you friends;

He was mainly talking about great leaders are great friends, they see the risk and dive right in.

When I had a rented lens for the November wedding,

Randa and I practiced some Thanksgiving weekend at my grandmother's house.

The only bad thing about the 70-200 lens is the weight;

my hands can't keep it steady at times for sharp focus.

We had fun though - and I loved our photos.

Vintage processing - loved this grassy place.

Having an old barn in the yard is pretty neat!

The "antique" car was a good prop too!

Definitely a team work session - that I thought turned out rather well.

A play on words with a phrase in my card....
I want to read the book "The Help" which is so popular this year;
however, "my Help" refers to Jesus, who is truly my refuge and help in time of trouble.
It almost doesn't feel like Christmas, but it is here NOW!

I downloaded Chloe's 4 month photos to my laptop tonight.

I took a break from wedding photo editing -
just couldn't resist her cute lil face.

After opening one of her photos in Photoshop, I practiced some.

And I ran a #2 pencil action to see how it would look.

I love Photoshop for finishing touches!

But, it's hard to beat the convenience and time efficiency of Lightroom!

After the Raleigh trip -

went by the Senior Citizens dinner.

The next day - I found out that my lens rental had a technical problem.
(Major stress!!)

Wonderful customer service from

Camera Lens Rental though.

Another lens overnighted to the upstate.
If you ever need any photo equipment rentals, I highly recommend this company!!

Everything worked out to have the lens for Elisabeth's wedding.

That was a rough night!

Happy belated birthday to my sister Andrea!

My heart is thankful for you!

Packing and prep for my Raleigh trip.
A four day conference.
Two early driving mornings - two nights stay.

Favorites - spending time with my mama.

Krispy Kreme. Figuring out the gps on the phone.

Shopping / Crabtree Valley Mall.

(ate too much during the day, had to skip the Cheesecake Factory - bummer!)

Chloe turned 3 months in October -

I finally finished these photos this week.

We always have a crying shot! :)

The pacifier helped with the crying - so it stayed for a few photos.

Her wrinkled eyebrow "look"

Sweet little baby - I love how big her eyes look!

Precious laughter!

Some of her faces are rather comical!

I can't help but laugh at her expression.

Her arms and legs are rarely still.

She can push that pacifier out and work on those fists.

She loves her hands!

Chloe in her two month outfit.

It's hard to get a good photo without prop support.

She kind of leaned over, the jumper hid her face, etc.

So, that led to some arm support.

Such an expressive baby!

I love the "o" face on the left.

She seems surprised/scared quite a bit - then a little sad

and probably quite mad.

Growing fast!

The white background didn't work to well - she went through the crack in the pillows.

Which gave her some cute hair flips.

She had enough of the photos for this month...but even with the photos that
are not really "framers" it is still fun to look back at the changes. :)

My photos are saying that the days of September are over - where did the time go?

I know that answer, yet I still can't hardly believe that time is so swiftly passing.

It seems that I just caught up with September photos and it is now December.
And 2012 is just a few days away.

Back to some memories I didn't recap for the year...
youth camp in September- always special!

And on to October memories...

My mama had a birthday!

I had company that weekend too! :)

Chloe was 2 months old on mama's birthday - lots of cute photos.

We had a family birthday celebration - these cupcakes were fun to decorate!

Brooke is 6! Andrea has the cake photo "here" - very cute!

This captured moment is what makes life worthwhile - the love, laughter, the sweet times shared.

I upgraded to the smartphone - it's a love/hate/aggravating/useful/expensive situation.

Charity turned 16 - loved her cupcakes!

The first of October had some "crammed-full" days -

we had a huge week/weekend for family and church activities.

Three above - and the fourth celebration on the 8th for the Vollrath's 25th anniversary.

And then Pastor Appreciation on the 9th!

Love our pastor and his family!

I needed the Columbus day break.

And my driveway/entrance columns had a much-needed update.

A few days to catch up, breathe, clean up,

planted some stuff in the ground theweekend - no photos.

And then we had Homecoming.

Which led into revival week....wonderful revival, answered prayers!

Revival ending on Friday night -

time with these kiddos.

(Happy 16th Anniversary to A&R - no photo, whoops!)

Leaving for MB on Saturday.

The shore, shells, sights - lovely!

Lunch with Livy, Robin, Allison, and Chloe.

Shopping trip successful - boots to wear for the winter.

Really good deals because 3 were from the children's section.

I ended up with 4 pairs for what I could have spent on 1 pair.

A few days later - we celebrated again.

Andrea made another cute cake!

A good smile for the birthday photo!

And that pretty much ends October - except for going back

and posting a few from Chloe's 2 month photos.

With some serious prayer requests within the past few days,

I am even more grateful for the blessings of God.

Unbelievable sorrow and pain - tough times for several different families.

(losing a mother, someone my age in critical condition, facing fiery trials.)

I still cling to the hope that "God is good ALL the time!"

Thanksgiving, cultivating a thankful heart!

Jesus! He's there for me; I can't imagine my life without Him!
He gave me something real!

Life is painful at times, the heart is bruised - but God is still good.
I want to love Him more!

The blessing of my family - all 16 of us:
my parents, three precious siblings - my brother and two sisters,

two brothers and a sister through marriage,
and seven little people to love on.
I have found that my dearest friends also are family.

Life is made sweeter by ALL my family and friends.
I can't count the special moments with so many dear ones.

My needs are provided, abundantly!
God has blessed me with what I would call "material" necessities -
a home, job, car, food, clothes, shoes, and the list goes on and on.
In addition, He has given me many of my wants and dreams.

I would like to give thanks always for all things;
however, I have to confess that I fail at this - often.

Nerves, headache (that went away thankfully), and stress

along with a lack of sleep throughout the week turned into a "crash" Saturday evening.

Hopefully, I will finish the photos soon...Daniel and I managed to capture most of the details.

In the busy days of life,

and I have more than my share.

Some things remind you just how much life could change.

How very fragile life is.

This photo from my text messaging is quite scary...

So thankful that Kennie is okay.

Not a good way for a Friday to begin.

The next day involved some cleaning up in my room...

Seeing the floor again made me smile! =)
And yes, I take photos of random things so I will remember.
After all - "A photo is worth a thousand words."

The day also included some shopping in Florence

and some birthday celebrating too.

Another busy weekend in September - every single one had plans.

The rest of the week included some fall preparation and yard work.

Planting bushes again - hopefully these will survive.
(On the side near the tree stump, this is the third bush!)

The state came and fixed my driveway (can't remember which sept day) -
no huge bounce anymore from the pine roots.

And I took some photos of some of my favorites in the yard from this summer...

I love the mandevillas on the lamp post!

Potato vines and coleus - the ones at the back grew from pieces from Granny's front porch.

The geraniums lasted a long time!

All of these hanging baskets are from clippings from Aunt Jeanette - so pretty!

These purple bushes were super tiny; now they are HUGE!
I just planted them last year!

Moved the lantanas from near the brick entryways; they survived the move!

These bushes grew quite a bit; several are needing a trim already!

This lantana was a good-grower also - a pretty view as I got in/out of my car every day!

The month of September ended with NC youth camp -
photos on that later...

sept / week 3

Week 3 in September had preparations for going to Alabama.
Pay for tires on the car - good deal, but roaring noise.

We left Thursday from Kennie's house that afternoon around 4 maybe?

We ended up with all kinds of issues for the trip there -
we had to turn the gps off to save power,
my power outlets had quit working,
so later my phone died,
traffic issues several times,
then a major standstill,
conversation with a trucker on a road-closed I-20,
going up a down exit ramp,
seeing the cop,
going on a detour,
long, long, long roads,
switching drivers and sleeping some,
pulled over in Eclectic, AL in the AM hours,
finally reaching the campground really late.

Oh my - what a trip!

Great services, sweet friends!

2009 and 2011 are the only times I really "remember"

going besides the vague memories as a little girl.

We left Saturday morning and had a much easier trip.

McDonalds for breakfast - conversation with a stranger.

The long, long, long road again.

A quick turnaround on 285.

Meeting Randa in Anderson to eat.

Leaving Anderson for Honea Path to see Granny,

stop by and meet John Owen (my cousin Eric's new baby),

and letting mama drive from there home.

Whew - that was the third busy weekend in September.

I don't really remember what I did the next few days -

some cleaning up I'm sure, bible study, and who knows what else?

Wednesday, 9/21 - this amazing tribute made the headlines in our county.

Ms. Judy is one of the sweetest ladies!
I probably have known (known of) Ms. Judy and Mr. Larry for years.
However, I witnessed her thoughtfulness first-hand at MJ's wedding in 2008.
Since I was behind the lens so much, she told Daniel that
he needed to take a photo that had me "in it."

Since then our paths have crossed quite a bit.

She is kind of a "down the road neighbor" -

I can drive to her house in a minute probably.

(if the train crossing is clear.)

A brave lady who is battling cancer.
Pray for her please.
Last October, they found a brain tumor.
She has went through so much!

She can't talk much anymore,
but the surprise and happiness is evident.

What a privilege to honor a special lady!

For week 2 in September,

I made some changes on my blog.

And I worked on some computer stuff...

My Aunt Jeanette gave us some clippings in April from a plant,

it has grown to this:

I took this (bad) picture to take with us - we stopped by to see her in High Point.

(She wasn't at her house, found out she was in assisted living.)

We left from there and went to Dry Fork, VA

for a fall revival and to hear our pastor preach.

The second Saturday of busy in September.

For grandparents day (9/11), we celebrated at my house on Monday night 9/12.

Mama and Daddy with their seven grandchildren!

We had breakfast food for supper.

Miss Chloe had on a super cute outfit, but she wasn't in a photo mood.

She did like some focused attention and having her daddy talk to her...

A gift for grandparent's day - well liked. :)

And a book I finally finished reading in September -

"Much Afraid" becomes "Grace and Glory."

I am nowhere close to being a newborn photographer, but it is fun to practice on Chloe. :)

She moves almost ALL the time - and she looks quite scared in a lot of the photos.

She cried.

She slept.

She smiled.

These stickers from pickysticky are super cool.

They now have second year, milestones, holidays, etc.

Great ideas for babies and photos!

Using the stickers with a scrapbook page is a good idea also.

We had to take several breaks for Chloe to eat.
It seems like she stays hungry. :)
Look at her - her legs were stiff...

Cute little dress - she looks like a 'chunker' with rolls on her legs and those cheeks. :)

The camera angle is deceiving at times though - she looks tiny here.

Loved this fabric Andrea had and this little denim skirt with a ruffled shirt.

Oops...she spits up too.

And after about four hours, she was probably fed up with a camera in her face.
But, we got one last cute photo...

I want to remember some details from September,

so I am going to post "history" for a few days.

9/1 was another family birthday.

We ate with Ross at Golden Corral -

and I only had my cell phone for photos.

Ross had some "rare" steak - definitely NOT something on my favorites.

I loved the chocolate fondue -

I dipped strawberries, a marshmallow, and a rice krispie treat in the chocolate!

Emma's shirt is too funny - "WHERE MY PEEPS AT"

And Ross liked the 'group' gift for skydiving - not sure when he and Daniel are going?

I want to watch (and snap photos) when they go! =)

This photo from August scares me...

....which is why I have this September photo.

I am trying to make sure all my photos/documents/etc are saved and backed up.

I do not want the heartache if I lost "once in a lifetime" photos.

When I took Chloe's one month photos (more of them later),

I snapped a few shots of Emma in a school outfit.

I experimented with some editing - for "bright" colors. :)

The first Saturday in September was spent working outside and then going to a birthday party.

Kennie came over to help with my pool - we thought there would be frogs to catch.

However, the pool had way too much water to finish pumping in one day.

She didn't believe me on the depth of the pool, so we tried to use a rope for measurement.

It was a rather hot day...

Going to a birthday party for a "Tiger" fan had all kinds of fun stuff.

Clemson - purple and orange - decorations everywhere, good food,

party hats, silly string, tiger tails, corn hole,

picking and singing, gift-opening, time enjoyed together.

On to labor day, I love having holidays off.

I spent the day working at home.

Moving stuff from the parent's left a MESS in my room for a while.

I definitely labored on "labor day."

Moving stuff out of my room...

Filling in spaces in these white cubes...(not sure when I will finish that project.)

The file cabinet didn't stay here; I am running out of space in my little house.

One of the most cherished memories - sorting through people's kind words...

in hard, painful days, it helps to have someone who cares.

Another project on labor day - thankfully had help to finish.

After pumping almost all of the water out - the frogs were not there.

We saw them jumping into the water and heard the splashes before this though.

And would you know (in october),

the water has risen from the rain, and I hear frogs jumping again!

Ugh - I so do not like this pool right now.

I posted two photos earlier from the labor day meal -

lots of good food and good company for a back porch gathering.

Chloe was sleeping away in the inside - Kennie woke her up with the camera.

This little baby is one of the highlights for 2011. =)

remembering 9/11

As a 16 year old in high school,
I went through a day where it felt like
my world rocked,
the axis shifted,
it didn't make sense.
Fear, shock, disbelief.

I'm not sure how much school work was accomplished that day.
I remember going to a prayer service at my church and talking
with my sister about the serious nature of the time.
Such a surreal feeling - the first time I remembered "war" to touch the USA.

No one had made preparations for that day. (except the terrorist.)
We were caught unaware here in the USA.
Not ready.
How will it be when time shall be no more?
I pray that I have made my preparations.
I want to be ready!

I am so thankful though for God's mercy on America.
For the soldiers, the rescue workers, ALL the heroes of our land.
This land, I love - the stars and stripes!
I am grateful for each drop of freedom that I have.

cracker barrel

For Zac's birthday on 8/27, we went to Cracker Barrel.

I sat with the little girls. :)

The little bottles of syrup are a hit!

Emma poured all of her syrup out at one time.

(All the kiddos at our table ended up eating some of Emma's pancake plate.

They switched chicken and fries for something sweet.)

My meal - probably my favorite choice from Cracker Barrel.

(I think this is the first thing I ate from Cracker Barrel

back in 2007 on a vacation trip to DC, PA, etc.)

Zac's face is red because they are singing Happy Birthday to him.

He does not like to be in the center of attention.

But - he did get some dessert, a trade-off for the embarrassment.

Paige and I worked on this booklet...she is quite smart.

Everyone hung out for a while - watching Zac open presents, talking,

enjoying the rockers (I love the small ones, but not the price tag.)

Barnes & Nobles gift card for the reader.

Some Odyssey to fill the time.

Sweet moments as all kids crowd around -

presents are exciting for kids (grown-ups too, I think!)

more AUG celebrating

On August 15th, my parents reached the 36 year milestone.

Lovely cake made by my sister Andrea.

That scrolly work on the side is super cute!

We actually were at a fish fry at church that Monday night of the 15th.

So we had another celebration the next night.

The parents with their gifts.

We also celebrated for Marcus' birthday two weeks late because Chloe arrived on his birthday.

Here are the two August 2nd babies. ;)

I forgot to take a photo of all the good food from the night

- roast, potatoes, carrots, rice, mac n cheese, (?other sides), cake, brownies, cookies, etc -

but I did take one of the rolls in the oven.

These Rhodes dinner rolls are fabulous!!

I kind of took an awkward photo, but I loved that little denim skirt with tennis shoes.

Chloe at two weeks old.

Now I am off to hopefully finish August photo editing...

sip n see

Back in June, I saw the "Sip and See" that Kelly's Korner posted about.

I passed along the idea and Allison had a "sip n see" for Chloe for family/friends.

Although the one at KK had more food, Allison almost went strictly with the "sip" theme.

The orange punch with peach sherbert

and the sangria [def non-alchoholic :) ]

were both good!

Using the same blocks from her other baby shower -

but switching out the 6 from the due date to the 2 for her birth date.

Levi and Em used a lot of breath to help with the pink balloons.

One Saturday in August, a summer storm hit.

Thunder rolled.

Lightning flashed.

Rain poured.

Water flooded.

And...

my camera snapped.

The "lake" in my front yard...

The waters filled up the ditches...

Flooded my mulch...

I love rain - not so much the stormy part.

And I sure did stand in my door

(even then the rain blew on me some)

and practiced camera settings to capture the rain drops.

Water - peaceful and still - strong and powerful.

I prefer the peaceful and still,

but Jesus can build our faith through the stormy waters

and then give us rest by merely speaking "peace, be still" to the waves.

I love that He has all power!

The kiddos love taking photos - with a phone or a camera.

I let them use mine and turned it on auto.

They have to take turns.

I am pretty sure this first one is Hunter's photography.

Whoops - Brooke's head is cut off but the focus is perfect on her eyes.

Have to remember cheesy smiles are for the memory books!

(Note: I deleted quite a few photos of people's feet and other objects around the house.)

And...then they got to lick the bowls from where we made icing for Hershey Bar cake.

ummm - savoring that bite!

Cleaning out that bowl....it is "finger-licking" good!
