of course they are on smugmug
but I still am posting them so that all 365
 days/photos will add up here

kitchen fire & gratitude

gratitude
for how this situation worked out -
some divine mercy and protection at work

the kitchen has fire/smoke damage at my parent's house

it could have been much worse,
a blanket saved the house

much to clean up in the kitchen and on the porch
(inside the cabinets, the ceiling, the floor, etc and etc)

it is not really my story

but my memories/some possessions
would have burnt in a house fire

so I am quite thankful

limited time

As I looked over my blog archive,
I realized that I have very few posts this month.

I think I want to post "photo a day" updates in a different format,
so that is a significant reduction in posts for this month.

Mostly though, I have little time for blogging these days -
with my own posts or reading others.

The house project is almost overwhelming -
too many choices as I stroll down aisles with views like this....

Lowe's is "taking" my money these days.
My house is showing progress though.
It is exciting!!!!

poolside picnic and spikes

back to april 23rd...

After the first week of actual work at my house,
we decided to work on other stuff that Saturday.
So Friday evening ended with a poolside picnic.

On our way to the house, I called Allison to order from Jack's.
She picked it up after we spread some smelly mulch.

The house is bare, it still smells some, and also because we were in the backyard -
we opened the food there and the concrete became our table.
And while a poolside picnic sounds nice - the view of the pool is not included for a reason.
Like some of the other, it has a problem. It needs a new liner.

Another small project from that week...
one of the the spike plants was moved to the other brick column.

Symmetry is definitely pleasing to the eye - at least to mine.
And that became my goal for this brick entryway.
I have several projects to share that focused on this area.
More on that later...

something i miss in the summer

i am trying to savor every season of life that I am entering
in addition to the normal seasons:
winter, spring, summer, fall.

taking a photo every day makes me more aware of my surroundings
documenting my thoughts enhances my thankfulness
and i notice my blessings more also

it may seem wierd
but i actually prefer winter over summer at times

as I tried to clean-up a few blog drafts, i opened a post with a "boot" photo

i bought these boots in October 09
during our family vacation at Surfside Beach
this became my footwear of choice this past winter

one of the TH symbols fell off in November, but that didn't matter
they were comfortable and I could wear them with casual or dressed-up outfits

the best part about them: they were not expensive
(actually a kid's size bought at an outlet store)

when i put them up this spring,
the shine had faded some
wear and tear showed
but i think i can wear them again  -
in the next cooler season

for now
i will fondly recall my kiddie boots
just one of the things i miss in the sweltering, summer weather

week 23: play photo challenge

I started a post for the i heart faces challenge last week,
but I did not find the time to finish.

For this week's challenge, I remembered that I had some
staged photos of my nephew Zac.

When it comes to imagination, I would stack his up against anyone.
It is that vivid...
He creates super heroes - drawing them and assigning them powers.

And he totally posed the shots for this "royal" set-up.
A rather rustic throne with a wooden sceptre - this is Zac's idea of fun.
This pursuit of play using his mind is a blessing because he is a heart-surgery baby.

I love a "mind at play"....

He turned his face to the side, lifted his chin, and posed three times.
I posted the other two shots here.
(I think he told me to take them because he might be famous or the photos
could be famous one day. ha!)

Avid reading fuels this little boy's brain, creating an amazing vocabulary.
His reading habits remind me of a certain little girl...but I digress.

I am linking to this week's photo challenge for play -

mother's day cookout in HP

i have so many memories from the past few weeks
to archive under my "2010 journal" label,
including this one...

the Saturday before Mother's Day
my mom's family gathers to celebrate the event early.
this year,
we ate hot dogs and bbq
and too many desserts to name - they were fabulous

of course, the best part is
time spent catching up with family
me and  Randa - taking photos together
(thx Livy)

adoring the new family baby
Hunter loved Riley.

seeing this cute little cowboy - strutting with some boots and spurs.

watching the little ones form connections

capturing cute little smiles

seeing the kiddos enjoy the dirt

laughing and talking on the front porch

and most of all
honoring this precious lady...

even though miles span the distance
and my family has to cram in trips with around 7 hours of riding
the memories are worth it...
